The Head of State confers With Tunisia's Representative to " Committee of Wise Men"

1 September 2003--President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali received Monday, Mr. Noureddine Mejdoub, whom the head of state nominated as Tunisia's representative to the "Committee of Wise Men", a U.N structure entrusted with seeing to the materialization of the President Ben Ali's initiative for the creation of the World Solidarity Fund which had already been adopted by the United Nations' General Assembly.

The head of state highlighted the humanitarian and solidary vision which underlies the creation of this fund and the success of this experience at the national level.

The president of the republic also stressed the need to see to it that this committee strive to mobilize funds under the shape of voluntary solidarity donations likely to enable this mechanism to assume its role in the shortest terms in the service of the peoples who mostly need the mobilization of international solidarity and so as to eradicate the pockets of poverty in several regions of the world, and notably in Africa.
